Also required for that wind warranty, and it finishes the roof lines properly.
Wind warranty conditions are strict and specific. If the 160 mph limited wind warranty is part of why you're choosing TAMKO, tell us up front so the quote is written to those requirements.

Some carriers offer a credit for impact-classified roofing and some don't, and the amount varies. Get it in writing from your agent before you pay a premium for Class 4 on that basis alone. We can supply the product documentation your carrier asks for.
No. The classification comes from a lab test with steel balls dropped at set energies. Real hail arrives at different sizes, shapes, speeds and angles. Laboratory results do not predict whether a particular hailstorm will damage your roof.
By installing it TAMKO's way: TAMKO starter, TAMKO hip and ridge, and full compliance with the high-wind application instructions, including nailing pattern. If a quote promises that number without those components, the number isn't real.
If hail is your main worry and you plan to stay in the home long-term, Class 4 StormFighter FLEX is the more direct answer. If you want a heavier shingle with strong wind coverage at a lower cost, Titan XT at Class 3 is a reasonable middle. We'll price both so you can compare with real numbers.
